Postcards Collector

Have you ever heard of a website called “Postcrossing”? Actually, the website absolutely changes a part of my life. “Postcroosing” is a website which provides people all over the world to exchange their country’s postcards with others. You might be curios about how it works. Once you send a postcard from your country to a stranger, and then you will get a postcard from the other stranger in a random country. Thus, after several years of involving in this program, I have get more than six hundred and fifty postcards from more than forty countries.

Since I have joined the program, it really spices up my mundane life. I clearly remember a postcard I received in the third grade of high school. I was preparing the entrance examination to university and I felt stressed out almost every moment in my life. One day, when I arrived home at around nine o’clock, I opened the mailbox in a mentally and physically exhausted condition. Surprisingly, I got a postcard from China’s girl with inspiring word in the end of the card. She said “Cheer up for the examination and don’t forget to live a happy life!” It’s so touching for me at the moment that I could get a postcard from a stranger with such cheerful word. Until now, the content of that postcard still bears in my mind.

In addition to the impressive experience in my high school, there’s also another interesting story in my postcards collecting life. I have received a lot of postcards from several countries that people rarely heard of, like Kosovo, Romania, Morocco, Lithuania and so on. One time, when I received the postcard from Morocco, I thought that it was from Indonesia due to the similar flag icon on the postcards! And I just sent a message to the sender and wrote down “Thanks for the love from Indonesia” with several emoji of hearts. However, the sender wasn’t angry and even sent me another postcard with the big Morocco flag on it! It’s so embarrassing for me to misrecognize the flag of her country then.

“Postcrossing” indeed gives me another perspective toward myself and the world. According to more than six hundred postcards, I know more than six hundred people’s life. They share their culture, cuisine, weather, news and landscapes with me. I don’t need to go abroad to broaden my horizon. Actually, what I need to do is to exchange postcards with different kinds of people all over the world. I am not only collecting postcards but also collecting all the stories from people all over the world.
